Any of you heard of "Iron Chef?" Well, if you've never heard of it, that's fine, because I didn't know about it either. So from what I've heard, basically, it's a cooking competition, with a limited amount of time and ingredients to use. On Friday, EHS held the "Battle of the Chefs," which was the high school version of "Iron Chef." As the tables were set up and the contenders were ready, the competition began.
In order to finish the competition and get evaluated by the judges, the contenders, in groups of 4, have to prepare an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. More importantly, they must all include the secret ingredient, blueberries.
As the teams cracked open their heads and thought about it, creative and interesting ideas came up. This time, the choices for the protein in the main dish were chicken, beef (steak), salmon, and shrimp. As for vegetables, fruits and seasoning, there are lots of choices. Bottles and bottles of different seasonings were displayed on a table behind the chefs, so were the fruits and vegetables.
The competitors did everything they could to make the best food on the world.
Unfortunately, the 1-hour time limit went by quickly. As the cooking ended, the real and intense competition started. It’s time for the judge the food!
The appetizer of the first group was a salad, with blueberries, strawberries, lettuce, and grapes.
The main dish was grilled chicken topped with blueberry sauce, and pasta on the side. Umm… looks good!
For dessert, they made a little dish with strawberries, blueberries, chocolate, coconut, and blueberry sauce.
The second group also made a salad for the appetizer. They made a dish of “star” yogurt salad, with orange, strawberries, bananas, and blueberry yogurt.
The main dish by the second group was very interesting and creative. It was steak with blueberry sauce, sided with pasta, salad, and blueberry bread. For the bread, they cut slices from the baguette and cut open them. After it, they added mashed blueberries in the middle and added thin slices of strawberries on top.
Their dessert was also very creative. They made a blueberry chocolate crepe with burritos. Beside the crepe, they added strawberries and whipped cream.
The third group had a blast on their appetizer. Though it’s still salad, they added a secret ingredient of their own, caramel walnuts. They also added a piece of bread beside their salad. The bread was baked with cheese and blueberries on top.
Their main dish was also grilled chicken with blueberries on top, with pasta on the side.
For the dessert, I forgot what it was, but it was something including yogurt and blueberries.
The judges slowly tasted the food they made, right after the contestants explained their dishes. As they wrote down comments and scores, the tension built up in everyone’s minds.
At last, the scores were counted and it was a close match. However, the result eventually came out. It’s the second group! Congratulations!
This was such a fun and intense competition. I hope I can join the competition next time! :)
